Gordon worked with theatrical producer Liz Dunn to create “One Night Stands” at La Mama Caberet in Ellen Stewart’s legendary La Mama Theater. He adopted the pseudonym Sketch Louis for his on site illustrations capturing performers like Hapi Phace, Edgar Oliver, Lypsinka, Samoa, the performance groups Watchface and Tweed Theater company, Tabboo!, Kimberly Flynn among others. Gordon also drew a spot on caricature of Sam Shepard for his 1984 La Mama presentation of Shepard Sets – a series of three short plays: Suicide in B Flat, Angel City and Black Bog Beast. Gordon proved himself to be a master of realist drawing with a wry sense of humor – a social satirist in the tradition of England’s Hogarth or France's J.J. Grandville.
Gordon created "The Bearded Bride" - a theatrical performance piece as part of FoHo Tell Dreams at Danspace in St. Mark's Church on the Bowery.
